Characteristics of ductile cast iron

there ductile cast owes its remarkable mechanical characteristics to the spheroidal form of graphite it contains:

  • traction resistance
  • shock resistance
  • high elastic limit
  • Significant lengthening

These characteristics can be further improved by mastering the chemical analysis and thermal treatment of the metal matrix.
Ductile melting, however, retains the traditional mechanical qualities of the casts, derived from their high carbon content:

  • compression resistance
  • moulding ability
  • resistance to abrasion
  • usinability
  • resistance to fatigue

The 2015 EN124 standard applies. It determines the technical characteristics of coronation and closure devices for traffic areas used by pedestrians and vehicles. It specifies the principles of construction, standard testing, marking and quality control.

The class of closure devices and crowning devices suitable for use depends on the place of installation. The various places of installation have been divided into classes. Choosing the right class is the installer's responsibility. A higher class should be chosen where there is doubt about which class to use.
