Excavation design

The depth of the excavation depends on the type and size of the channel chosen, plus the height of the concrete layer on the bottom. At this stage, it is also necessary to consider the possible passage of the evacuation pipes vertically and/or horizontally, and the presence of a waste collection bin. The gutter must be built from the lowest point or drain.

Concrete base

A layer of concrete should be applied to the laying surface, taking into account any slope for water drainage. The concrete that will be used for the base and shoulders of the gutter must have S4 flow properties to allow the filling of all voids outside the gutter. For this reason, gravel with a maximum diameter of 15 mm should be used. Keep in mind that these gutters are not self-supporting, but become so after proper placement and pouring of concrete.

Classification A15 B125 C250
Minimum height of concrete layer H 100mm 100mm 150mm
Minimum thickness of concrete layer S 100mm 100mm 150mm
Minimum compressive strength 25 N/mm² 30 N/mm² 30 N/mm²

Installation of the gutter

Always install the gutters from the point of water discharge (downstream), connecting the drain to the sewer or, if applicable, to the oil separator for the treatment of the first rain. The connection plug must be placed on the edge of the channel and the channels must be installed from downstream to upstream, using the joints at the edges of the channels. Then, the upstream channel is cut to size to achieve the desired length. Next, arrange the necessary reliefs, install the anchor profiles on the cast iron profile (if necessary) and fill the gutter shoulder up to the maximum level with concrete. During this phase, it is extremely important to place the grid in front of the concrete filling to avoid possible damage due to the pressure exerted by the concrete. Always protect the grids with a film to avoid cleaning after pouring the concrete. For better waterproofing, it is also possible to use a bitumen-based sealant when connecting a gutter to another gutter.

Final coating

When applying the final coating, ensure that the final coating is between 3 and 5 mm above the top edge of the channel or the top surface of the grate. Then remove the protective film and attach the grids to the gutter.
